第一讲:The Fascinating Solar Active Region 12673

讲座题目:The Fascinating Solar Active Region 12673

讲座嘉宾:孙旭东(University of Hawaii))

Solar active region 12673 produced two most intense flares of Cycle 24 in September 2017. Its evolution was closely monitored by many observatories, which yielded observations with significant implications. In this talk, I will review selected results from the literature. I will also describe our own work on its magnetic field properties, with a focus on the “bald patch” topology, its formation, and its disintegration during the X9 flare.

Xudong Sun is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii (UH) at Mānoa. He obtained a BS degree in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Science and Technology of China, and a PhD degree in Physics from Stanford University. He is a team member of NASA’s Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager, and a science working group member for NSF’s Inouye Solar Telescope. He is interested in a variety of solar and stellar physical processes, in particular those that involve the magnetic fields.
