讲座摘要

Magnetic reconnection is a ubiquitous process in plasma physics,with explosive energy conversionfromelectromagneticfieldstoplasmas.High-spedflowsandhighly structured particle distributions are createdin the reconnection,which generate waves and turbulence.These processes in turnhave potential impact on reconnection by achieving energy dissipation,producing particle diffusion,and sustaining the reconnection electric field,etc. Understanding the effect of waves and the associated physical mechanisms requires detailed investigations of kinetic physics in the ion or even electron scale sub-regions in reconnection,which are much enabled by the progress of high-resolution spacecraft measurements and high performance computation capabilities for particle simulations. In this presentation, we will review some current understanding of waves in reconnection.A few key aspects include the types of ion-to-electron scale waves present in reconnection,their excitation mechanisms, wave-particle interactions, and their possible net impact on reconnection. In particular, we will share our studies onlower-hybrid and whistler waves in recent years. Hope that our discussions will encourage interests and ideas for further understanding of this topic.


嘉宾介绍

汪珊,北京大学地球与空间科学学院研究员。2012年获得北京大学空间物理本科学位,2015年在美国新罕布什尔大学获得物理博士学位,2015至2022年在美国马里兰大学帕克分校任职博士后和助理研究员,2022年底回国。主要研究方向是利用观测和模拟研究磁重联和激波等地球磁层中的等离子体物理动力学现象。
