讲座摘要

The May 2024 space weather events, marked by complex near-Earth interplanetary structures, triggered the second-largest geomagnetic storm in the space age. The SYM-H=-518 nT superstorm was associated with six supersubstorms (SSSs) with SML intensities<-2500nT. The impacts of the space weather events include extreme cosmicray decreases, radiation belt electron losses, generation of intense geomagnetically induced currents, unusual intensification offield-aligned currents, ionospheric plasma anomaly and plasmadepletion. In the present talk, we will discuss the interplanetary causes of the superstorm and the SSSs and their impacts in the context of previous studies of the superstorms and SSSs.


嘉宾介绍

Rajkumar Hajra is a Specially Appointed Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. He received Ph.D. from the University of Calcutta, India. He subsequently became a post-doctoral research fellowat the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research, and the French National Center for Scientific Research. He was selected as a "Ramanujan Fellow"by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India; and as a "Distinguished Researcher" by CAS. He received the"Excellent Young Science Fund Project (Overseas)" from the NSFC. He has authored or coauthored 88 scientific papers in refereedinternational journals, a NASA technical brief,and two book chapters.
